Life After Stardock?
does not recognize install
Published on September 7, 2012 By skyzyk In Stardock Central Support

Every time I open in the morning, Stardock Central tells me about the new version of Fences 2.0 Beta update, which is already installed. But because it is now included in Desktop, it will not recognize it. It knows that I have 1.8 Beta and tries to update it constantly. How can I stop this or maybe it's time for an update to Stardock Central?

Send an email to support@stardock.com so we can take a look at what might be going on.  Most likely, there's a rogue registry entry that's not playing nice.

I've been having the same problem....I thought it was something that I did. I guess it's not just me having this issue.   --Ace--

@AceMatrix

No you're not alone

I have Fences 2.0 beta showing as an update in SDC on my main rig, even tho it also shows as installed.

On my laptop, it doesn't show at all in SDC, as installed or otherwise.

Ditto, same problem here.  No matter how many times I install fences 2 beta, after each re-boot, stardock central tells me there is a fences 2 beta available for download.  Very furstrating since it is already installed.

So far, it looks like what's happening is a leftover registry entry from the previous version isn't being cleaned for some reason, so SDC looks, and says, "Oh, you're still using v1.10, there's this cool new version you should try!"  It means well, but it's certainly not optimal.  If you contact support, we should be able to help you clear out the offending entry if you're not comfortable with regedit.

Based on the few examples I've seen, the leftover key was:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Stardock\ObjectDesktop\FencesPro

May be a little different based on your system.  Are any of you seeing this on 32-bit Windows?

I'm having the same issue with both Fence 2.0 beta and Multiplicity 2.0 beta.  SDC keeps reporting time that they need to me updated everytime.

I do not have the FencesPro registry entry as mentioned above, but I do have the old Multiplicity 1 entry.

on Sep 12, 2012

I fixed the issue with Multiplicity.  The version entry in the registry was saying 1.80 even though I installed 1.90 at least 3 times.  By manually changing that value, then SDC stopped prompting to update it.

It is still constantly reporting Fences 2, though.

UPDATE: Fixed the issue by fixing the "Version" entry under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Stardock\Misc\Fences2

I entered value "2.00" and SDC stopped reporting on it.

Rosco Re left over key:

I had a hard drive (windows) failure reformatted installed win 7 64bit Home premium from scratch. received email advising beta of fences two was out installed stardock central.

from there i installed fences two I have never installed fences pro version one in this configuration I am still having this issue

Registry reports fences 2 version 1.8 no matter how many times i install version two from stardock central

 Hope this helps

Hi,

i have another problem regarding Fences 2.0.

After purchasing and installing it, i wanted to activate it with the serial number under "My Downloads", but the registration keeps telling me that my serial number is not valid for activating fences.

Does anyone else have this problem, or am i the only one.

I already wrote a mail to Stardock Support and hope that they can help me.

My only other explanation for this could be that my Stardock account is quite new and something might be not properly registered.

Greetings.

I have an older version on my home computer and I'm getting totally sick-and-tired of the weekly nag messages.

So irritated that I've already started looking for an alternative.

When I installed, it claimed to be free, but with a paid version that offered better facilities.

Now the nag screen suggests that even the basic version is no longer free.

If that's true, out it goes... along with my recommendation to everyone who currently uses it.

(take a hint guys... if I dismiss the nag screen 3 times, I probably don't plan to upgrade any time soon!)

If I'm not mistaken, v1 is not being supported any longer. You may want to shoot support@stardock.com a message? In my opinion, if you feel that irritated/outraged why even bother keeping the software on your computer? I think others have also mentioned looking for alternatives so, far I have yet to find a post with a success story...Good Luck!!!
